Geekollection: Geeky Jewellery

Relative to my lifelong geekdom I don't have a huge amount of exclusively nerdy accessories but here is my growing collection.

From left to right: Game of Thrones Hand of the King pin and House Stark medallion (Amazon), Batman ring (Ebay), Zombie necklace by Kreepsville 666 (via Ebay), Lego block pendant, Raphael and Darth Vader badge (Thoughbubble Leeds), Robot badge (Designer Marketplace Middlesborough), Nuka cola earring and necklace (handmade by me), FMA Edward Elric pin (Ebay), Domokun necklace, Monopoly house earrings (Designer Marketplace Middlesborough), Dice ring (Handmade by me), SLR Camera necklace (Thailand), Joystick earrings, Batman badges (free from Birmingham comic con), Princess Mononoke badges (handmade present), Xandir from Drawn Together badge (handmade present), Black Jack badge, Charlie the unicorn badge (handmade present), Pacman Removals Badge (Ebay), Dick Tracy 'the kid' badge (childhood), Saturn Ringmaster (childhood), J scrabble tile ring (handmade by me), Doraemon/Robot slides (Thailand), Batman watch (Ebay)

These are two of my favorite badges and I wore the 'I am Batman' badge for a long time on my jacket (hence it's a bit bashed). The best thing about them? They were free! In a bag of goodies at a Birmingham Comic Con they coincided with the death of Batman (obviously) and I had a lot of fun declaring I was Batman for most of my final year of university.

I made these nuka cola pieces of jewellery to go with my vault dweller costume I made one Halloween a few years ago. They were surprisingly easy to make although I'll be damned if I can find the other earring o_o. Maybe I'll share the whole costume someday (the pip boy is more impressive) and exactly how I made these.

I bought both of the above after finishing season 2 of game of thrones. That and the companion book o_o I know, nerd much? The Starks being my favorite family I bought their medallion and it's hefty enough that it feels almost medieval. I have yet to wear the hand of the king pin mostly because I'm almost certain that spike will get snapped off the moment I do.

Geekoutfit: Ode to Lichtenstein

As you probably guessed by the look of my blog, I'm a huge fan of comic book art. From a purely aesthetic point of view there is nothing that makes me smile quite like the bold, bright colours and graphic art style seen in golden age comics.

For those who don't know Roy Lichtenstein's work he was a hugely successful pop artist who took a style associated with low brow art and the picture books of nerds and kids and turned it into iconic artwork. Most famous for his piece Whaam! Lichtenstein took mass media imagery and had it transcend it's genre to line the walls of galleries. There might still be a stigma attached to comic book art outside the geek community but nobody will ever dispute the validity of Lichtenstein's contribution to the pop art movement.

I should apologize in advance for the terrible quality of the photos. Until I get a tripod or a photographer this is the best it's gonna get I'm afraid! The whole outfit was inspired by the skirt, which arrived today. I looove this skirt, despite being totally impractical to wear. Nothing like having Zaaap! written across your butt after all.

Pop Art Pencil Skirt: Ebay via vogueline1
Supergirl Sequined T-shirt: Ebay (originally H&M) via esmeleslie
Black Leggings: Primark
Green Cardigan: Primark
Headband: Primark (seeing a theme here?)
Red Belt: Handmedown from mum
Batman/Joker Converse Trainers: ASOS

To make up for my bad photography here's some better shots of things I'm wearing.

Pop Art Zaap! Skirt

Converse All Star DC Batman Hi-Top Trainers - Black
via Ebay (no longer for sale on ASOS)

Supergirl T-shirt: DC via H&M

Without realizing I dressed in DC merchandise but since I typically have more clothes with DC characters on being a big batman dork, that often happens. Any ebay sellers I've mentioned have been stellar and I'd definitely recommend buying from them.

Welcome

Once upon a time being a geek got you scorned, wedgied and generally socially black listed. Geeks were those weirdos who lurked in basements rolling dice and imagining lewd scenes involving Seven of Nine or Harley Quinn. Whilst I'm sure that still happens these days geeks have street cred, geek is chic and this blog is about celebrating and sharing my inner geek. Reviews, buys, drawings, videos and all manner of nerdtastic posts. So sit back and enjoy the adventures of a geek girl.
